The closed and environmentally friendly improvement project of Longteng Special Steel Material Yard in Changshu City, undertaken by Zhongnan Steel Structure, has passed the completion acceptance smoothly
On November 6, 2020, the closed environmental protection improvement project of Longteng Special Steel Material Yard in Changshu City, undertaken by Zhongnan Steel Structure, successfully passed the completion acceptance after 14 months of construction. As a key project undertaken by Zhongnan Steel Structure, this project is the largest span grid construction project of Zhongnan Steel Structure so far, and it is the first attempt to implement grid assembly on the river, which is a new attempt and breakthrough in the history of grid construction of Zhongnan Steel Structure.

The closed environmental protection improvement project of Longteng Special Steel Material Yard in Changshu City is located in Meili Town. The project has three greenhouses with a total enclosed area of about 210000 square meters. The enclosed area in the northwest corner is irregular in shape and designed in a triple span form according to the distribution of material piles. There is one span in the river area and one span on each side of the river. The No.1 greenhouse is located on the north side of the river, with a net shell span of 223.7 meters, a length of 411.2 meters, and a height of 58 meters; The No.2 greenhouse is located in the river area, with a net shell span of 88.2 meters, a length of 596 meters, and a height of 36.5 meters; The No. 3 greenhouse is located on the south side of the river, with a maximum span of 139.1 meters and a minimum span of 107 meters, a length of 464.1 meters, and a height of 43.5 meters. The project started in September 2019 and completed all construction tasks by the end of October 2020. On November 6, 2020, the Quality Inspection Station of Changshu City, Jiangsu Province organized an on-site acceptance meeting. After strict inspection of the site and various materials, it was unanimously agreed that the acceptance was qualified and the completion acceptance was successfully passed.

During the construction process of the project, Zhongnan Steel Structure adopted a combination of high-altitude bulk and sliding tire frames for installation and construction. The construction sequence of greenhouse 1 and greenhouse 3 started from the mountain wall and approached the middle. Greenhouse 2 needed to cross the river for construction, and the mountain wall span was relatively large. Therefore, the method of locally lifting the dragon reinforcement first and then spreading the installation was adopted. Through the unanimous efforts of all management, technical and construction personnel of the project department, the four major goals of construction period, quality, safety, and cost were successfully achieved according to the plan. During the construction of the project, each of the three greenhouses has its own unique characteristics in terms of construction technology and other aspects:
The No.1 greenhouse is a single arch double span mesh shell with a width of 223 meters, which is currently the largest single arch width in China. There are 15 truss structural columns in the middle, with a maximum spacing of 36 meters between the middle columns. The height of the middle columns is 54 meters, and the height of the mesh shell is 58 meters. There are more than 400 welded balls arranged at the ridge and column caps of the mesh frame. This shed has the characteristics of large installation span, high height, large column spacing, and a large number of welded balls. It is the most technically demanding and difficult single unit in this project, and there is no reference case in China. It must ensure safety and reliability while also considering economy. After repeated analysis, verification, and scheme comparison, as well as multiple expert discussions, the Central South Steel Structure Project Department finally comprehensively applied many special processes such as "tire frame sliding, small unit lifting, and mountain wall starting" to successfully overcome various technical difficulties.

The No. 2 greenhouse net is installed above the Anjing River, and the construction and installation need to cross the river channel at the beginning. The work site on both sides is narrow, so a new construction operation plan combining a large "barge installation platform" and a crane "aerial hook replacement" was adopted. The installation operation was strictly carried out according to the construction plan by department and shift. With the careful operation arrangement of the project leader, the precise command of the on-site commander, and the close cooperation of the barge and crane personnel, the dragon bar installation operation of the No. 2 greenhouse was completed safely, smoothly, and quickly according to the plan through the concerted efforts of the operators at all positions.

The No. 3 greenhouse is a variable cross-section mesh shell with many welded balls mixed in the middle. How to control its deflection during installation is the top priority that must be overcome in construction operations. Therefore, technicians have developed an installation plan that uses a gable starting point and a middle closing point, successfully solving the difficulty of deflection control and ensuring the smooth progress of construction operations.
