Floating Clouds Lift the Cradle of Animation - Series Report on China Animation Museum

Date:2016/5/9 11:43:41 Popularity:385

Zhejiang Zhongnan Construction Group Steel Structure Co., Ltd., together with Zhongnan Construction Group, successfully won the bid for the China Animation Museum project in December 2014 after fierce competition with multiple industry leaders. The winning bid cost of the project is 325 million yuan, with a total steel consumption of about 12000 tons for the steel structure and a total construction period of 600 days.

The China Animation Museum is planned to become the largest, most diverse, authoritative, domestically pioneering, and internationally first-class animation professional museum in China, showcasing the history of Chinese animation, highlighting the world's animation powers, highlighting the achievements of Chinese animation, fully utilizing modern animation technology, experiencing the atmosphere of animation amusement, and fully appreciating the culture and art of animation.

The China Animation Museum is located in the beautiful Baima Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou. The main body of the museum building presents a natural form with ups and downs, rounded and smooth like a "floating cloud" based on the height of different functional spaces inside, which is beautiful and full of fluidity. At the same time, combined with the "Anime Forest" square on the first floor of the building, it reflects a poetic and picturesque artistic conception of a "forest under the clouds" that blends naturally with the beautiful landscape environment. The designers fully considered the integration of the museum and the natural landscape of Baima Lake Park during the design process. The building adopts a centralized layout, and the first floor volume is cantilevered and elevated, allowing the lakeside landscape to penetrate into the interior of the building, forming a multi-level, permeable and blended space. Integrating a series of multimedia display technologies such as intelligent dimming film, 3D holographic imaging, and large-scale animation interactive devices organically into the indoor and outdoor spaces of buildings, creating architectural images with modern animation technology features.

The main structure of the China Animation Museum consists of a steel grid tube steel frame support structure on the first floor, and a steel frame structure on the second floor and above. The total construction area is 30382 square meters. 24932 square meters above ground and 5450 square meters underground. The main body of the China Animation Museum is a partially six story high-rise building, with some ancillary areas having mezzanines. The highest point of the entire building is 44.5 meters. The museum has an underground building with a floor elevation of -6.000, which includes an internal parking lot and most of the equipment rooms.

In the design of this steel structure project, many new technologies and processes have been adopted, such as using multiple diamond shaped steel mesh tubes with different diameters as the main structural load-bearing columns, buckling restrained support systems, buckling restrained energy dissipating steel plate walls, and TMD dampers; Intelligent dimming film, 3D holographic imaging, etc. And more unconventional design techniques are used, such as beam columns, vertical trusses, large section curved beams, large cast steel nodes, laminated rubber isolation bearings, etc. The use of steel involves multiple types of materials, specifications, and plate thicknesses, such as Q235B, Q345B, Q345C, Q420C, Q345GJ-C, Q420GJ-C, Q420GJZ-C (Z15 grade), Q420GJZ-C (Z25 grade), cast steel materials, 40Cr, etc. There are more than 20 types of steel section specifications, 15 or more plate thickness specifications, and the maximum diameter specification of steel pipes is 1200mm and the maximum plate thickness is 60mm.

As a specialized construction unit for steel structures, Zhongnan Steel Structure will undertake the manufacturing and installation of the main steel structure in this project. Since winning the bid, Zhongnan Steel Structure has been intensively carrying out technical preparation work for various projects. On March 23, 2015, it completed the joint review of steel structure drawings. On April 3, Zhongnan Steel Structure entrusted Tsinghua University Laboratory to complete the finite element analysis of Y2 and Y4 steel grid tube and steel tube tube node models. At the same time, it carried out material ordering and component manufacturing work related to model testing. On June 25, it successfully completed three sets of steel tube node model tests (two per set), and is expected to complete the Y2 and Y4 grid tube model testing work by late August; The main structure of the steel structure is planned to start installation in September and be completed by the end of April 2015.

It is extremely rare for a steel structure engineering project to have multiple new technologies and processes, multiple types of materials, multiple specifications of plate thickness, and multiple types of cross-sections in a project. In addition, the design also requires that multiple mesh tubes, nodes, and cast steel components in the structure must undergo solid model tests to verify the safety of the structure. The test results must meet the requirements of structural stress before implementation. Similar projects in China are also rare. This is the first time that Zhongnan Steel Structure has undertaken such an engineering project, which is both a challenge and an opportunity for Zhongnan Steel Structure. During the work process, Zhongnan Steel Structure encountered various difficulties. Firstly, the limited analysis of the model of the large and small mesh tubes, and how to conduct the solid model test? Under the leadership of General Manager Wang Yuwei, Zhongnan Steel Structure fully tapped into social resources and successfully invited a top experimental team led by Professor Guo Yanlin from the Structural Engineering Laboratory of Tsinghua University, an authoritative institution in China, to complete the solid model testing work in this project.

The steel pipe node model test started on June 7th and lasted for 18 working days under the leadership of Professor Guo. The last steel pipe node test was successfully completed on June 25th, and the test results were basically consistent with the finite element analysis of the test plan before the test; During the experiment, we received strong support from the owners, design units, and general contractors of the China Animation Museum. All parties visited the Tsinghua University laboratory to observe and guide, and listened to Professor Guo's experimental team's summary report on the node experiment. Professor Guo believes that the success of this node experiment has high practical guidance significance for the subsequent Y2 and Y4 grid tube solid model experiments and the overall project promotion.

For this project, Zhongnan Steel Structure has formed a strong project management team with General Manager Wang Yuwei as the core. They have overcome numerous difficulties and compiled a large number of technical documents, such as the construction organization design of the animation museum, the special construction plan for steel structures, the grid tube model test plan, the special safety plan, the special measurement plan, the special plan for temporary electricity use, the special construction plan for grid tubes, the TMD special construction plan, the special construction plan for buckling restraint support system, and the special construction plan for buckling restraint energy absorbing steel plate walls, totaling more than 15 special construction plans; Multiple component manufacturing operation processes have been developed for workshop processing and manufacturing, and 8 types of welding process evaluations have been developed for multiple types of materials and specifications of thick plates. The production workshop is currently busy working on the components of the fast drying anime studio.

I hope that through the smooth implementation of this project, our team's comprehensive skills will be further enhanced, and our company will become a more vibrant and powerful enterprise.
